Ballad of the DeckHand

On the first hour of work you're alert and worry free
the second hour of work you feel the tension on your knees
but the third hour brings 10 barges load of corn and yellow peas.
You belong to the river now and you'll have to give your sweat and all
the fourth hour seems a bit more worry free
and the fifth hour is a time to cruise the river on your double tow knee
by the sixth hour, ratchets have drained your elbow grease
You belong to the river now and you'll have to give your sweat and all
The seventh hour brings a crowd of empties
rusty and banged up...you'll try to catch a few Zzzz
but the eighth hour beckons for the boats of Missouri and Tennesse
The ninth hour comes creeping, with the wind and nightime freeze
You belong to the river now and you'll have to give your sweat and all
The 10th hour and you're off to see more lines and catch more vines
tick...tock..tick..tock...and your eleventh hour plays hide and seek
You belong to the river now and you'll have to give your sweat and all
and not to sweat it all....you drink the night's last gatorade and eat the last morsel
wishing that your captain would see that you're down to your last muscle
into port you roll ready to sleep as the world awakes.
You belong to the river now and you'll have to give your sweat and all
